As Design Manager, Tom unites his deep understanding of narrative with the needs of clients to create learning experiences that stay with participants and give them the tools they need to succeed.

Before joining The Smarty Train, Tom created learning experiences for innovative leaders and managers. He has taught apprentices, undergraduates and adult learners across a range of subjects from the history of science to finance for strategic leaders.

Tom took his own learning from an undergraduate degree in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic from the University of Cambridge via an MPhil from Oxford to his PhD in Science and Technology Studies from University College London. Delving into history has shown him the many different ways humans have learned and that learning is a process that never stops.

Strange but true…

Tom previously worked at the College of Arms, the heraldic authority for England and Wales. While there, he helped design a variety of new coats of arms, from Bruce Forsyth and Jools Hollands through to the Worshipful Company of IT Professionals.
