Accelerating Graduate Skills


Bupa wanted to equip their graduate cohorts from different areas of the business with key Business Development skills they might not have been exposed to in their studies, in order to be able to “hit the ground running” in their roles at the organisation.

The Smarty Train (TST) was commissioned to design training sessions to complement Bupa’s pre-existing graduate scheme, while still feeling new and value-adding. At the end of the induction sessions, graduates had to leave able to immediately apply the learnings to their roles and start making their marks on the business.

Following a consultation period with key Bupa stakeholders, it was clear that the graduates would be spending a great deal of time interacting with and influencing people, both in and out of the business. As a result, key learning outcomes of Personal Branding and Influencing were decided as the most valuable skills to provide the graduates.

Through a series of confidence-building activities, participants were shown how to grow their personal brand, how to manage up and how to present themselves memorably.

The safe space created by the session allowed the graduates to explore these skills in a live environment where they could experiment and fail, allowing them to receive actionable feedback.
